2017 got off to a busy start. January was a month of travel, events, big announcements, and extreme weather. In case you missed it, here’s the highlights package.
Amazon is building a 2-million-square-foot air services hub at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport. In a statement by Dave Clark, Amazon’s senior vice president of worldwide operations, he elaborated on the plan. “As we considered places for the long-term home for our air hub operations, Hebron quickly rose to the top of the list with a large, skilled workforce, centralized location with great connectivity to our nearby fulfillment locations, and an excellent quality of living for employees…We feel strongly that with these qualities as a place to do business, our investments will support Amazon and customers well into the future.”
The project will reduce Amazon’s dependency on FedEx and UPS, lowering costs in the long run. Louisville Business First reported this will bring “as many as 2,700 jobs and 40 Boeing 767s to CVG, according to officials, with 600 full-time jobs coming initially.”
More Warehouse News
Earlier this month, we finalized details of our new processing facility in Northern Kentucky — a stone’s throw away from Amazon’s fulfillment center and their new air hub. The new Netrush facility, in Hebron, has five times the floor space available at our current location, along with conference rooms, more dock doors, and plenty of additional storage.
In addition to our new place in Kentucky, Netrush Director of International Expansion, Jennifer Brand, collected the keys to our Canadian processing facility outside Toronto, Ontario. Securing the space represents a big step in our efforts to connect customers to great products. We’re looking forward to setting up unique processes that will ensure high quality Amazon fulfillment from our new location.
The Challenges of Going Global.
As Amazon expands its global footprint, the topic of taking brands into new markets is heating up. However, before you can tackle the “hows” of going global, there are a number “whys” to answer.
Amazon: You’re Doing it Wrong
For too many brands, Amazon is an inconvenient truth. A placeholder to complete transactions, to burn through unsold and unpopular stock, and to redirect customers back to their dot-com. If that’s you, and your Amazon seller account is currently being managed by your nephew, you’re doing it wrong.
The reality is that Amazon’s technology is the biggest opportunity in e-commerce right now. Brands that are leveraging it will reap the benefit of short-term sales growth and increase long-term overall brand equity.

Alexa At CES
Amazon’s virtual assistant, Alexa, the voice of Echo, had a big week at CES, the largest technology event of its kind, becoming the show’s unofficial winner according to the Wall Street Journal and Wired.
Snow… and lots of it!
January saw its fair share of inclement weather in the Pacific Northwest. The snowstorm that lasted from 1/11 to 1/12 was the largest in 20 years. Businesses between Portland and Vancouver had to shut down, public transport was scarce, and NetFlix viewership spiked.
