Amazon announced plans this morning to add 1,700 jobs in Italy, including positions for “all kinds of experience, education and skill levels,” ranging from software developers to warehouse workers. This move will raise the number of Amazon employees in Italy from 3,500 to 5,200, and signals an increased investment in foreign markets.
Amazon Italy recently moved its main office to Milan, where over 600 full-time employees will be working by the end of 2018. According to Amazon, this location is ideal for attracting and retaining top talent, who will fill positions such as retail account managers, cloud specialists, engineers, and SMB account managers. In addition, Amazon’s Development Center in Turin will be heavily focused on Alexa and Amazon device development.
On top of corporate expansion, Amazon will be hiring warehouse staff for their two new distribution centers in Passo Corese and Vercelli. Amazon’s announcement is heavily focused on the well-being of employees in Italy, noting that the retailer was named one of the “Datori di lavoro più attrattivi,” or “Most Attractive Employers,” in Italy this year.
