Amazon announced Alexa for Hospitality in a press release this morning, described as “a new experience offered by invitation to hoteliers that brings the simplicity and convenience of Alexa to hotels, vacation rentals, and other hospitality locations.” Alexa can be used by hotel guests to get information, play music, or ask for room service. In addition to announcing Alexa for Hospitality, Amazon has partnered with Marriott, which will be “introducing the new Alexa experience at select properties in Marriott Hotels, Westin Hotels & Resorts, St. Regis Hotels & Resorts, Aloft Hotels, and Autograph Collection Hotels starting this summer.”
Similar to Amazon’s partnership with Lennar, a leading homebuilder in the US, Alexa for Hospitality will be able to control smart home appliances such as lights, blinds, thermostats, televisions, and more. While Marriott has not confirmed utilizing Alexa’s smart home capabilities, each hospitality provider will have the opportunity to configure the virtual assistant to their liking.
Amazon wants to be as integrated into the lives of their customers as possible — to the point where they refer to their efforts as “our ‘Alexa Everywhere’ vision.” In addition to the Amazon Echo, Alexa can be found in third-party speakers, cars, laptops, Xboxes, homes, and soon, vacation rentals across the country. Alexa for Hospitality is an attempt to integrate even deeper — creating a “home away from home” for Alexa users and a personalized showroom for non-users.
